The reason I choose my societal problem was because the outrageous of not being able to where a American flag on a certain day gives me many things to poke fun at. My real opinion in this issue is that American was built to have the freedom to be yourself and express yourself how you want, and if someone tries to take that from you then there wrong. The satirical argument that is masking my true argument is that it could end bad if students wear certain things on certain days. The audience that would understand my satire article would be anyone because its showing people standing up for the country and way of living. I choose article to address my societal problems because its easiest for me to express my humor through words. The three literary devices i used in my essay were onomatopoeia, hyperbole, and Satire. " lack of respect shown to Latino students could lead to racial conflicts or worst another Spanish American war "Woah"" in this sentence i used hyperbole to over exaggerate going into war, and onomatopoeia to show shock of it going by using "Woah". Satire was used throughout most of my article where i poked fun at the Latino culture.
So far in my readings in “Exit Point”by Laura Langston, it tells a story from the point of view of a teenager who has passed away and living in the afterlife. With Logan's lack of memory from the fatal car crash, it has left him with trouble believing that he has past away. Logan’s desire to speak with his family for one last time has left Logan with guilt as he watches his family sit in sorrow and disbelief over his death. Seeing his family in such conditions, Logan is determined to find a way to come in contact with them. As Logan comes in contact with deceased family members and friends they fill him in on the in and outs of the afterlife as he begins his adventure.
As Logan begin to adjust to being died and only watch his love ones continue a life without him, he begins to realize the task he should have faced in life. As a month go by since his death he founds out that his little sister Amy has been molested. Finding out that his sister has been in danger, Logan feels the burden of leaving his sister all alone to handle her problems. As Logan spends more time in the after life he finds out that he is able to see the life that should have happen if he were alive. Knowing the future that would have happen he now knows what he should do to help his little sister Amy. With the help of Wade, Logan is now getting the training to speak to the living. With the wise words from his past away grandma, Logan has now regained the confidence to help save his sister Amy after being given the choice to meet the council and lose complete contact from the living or try to face his fears and help his endangered little sister. Current Page 75 In “High School Students Demand War” the author states its use of the many satire as it pokes fun of the new generations lack of knowledge. “ If invading Florida or New Jersey so that students know where there are so be it.”; The author uses hyperbole to say that students only know the location of areas if a big event such as a war occurred there. The author also uses oxymoron when they put the two words Australia and Austria together to explain that most students wouldn't know the difference between the two. The last paragraph in the article says, “2,000 students were going to hold a march at the state capital, but forgot which state it was in”; this uses Irony because of the fact that the students didn't have the march because they couldn't get to the capital being that most people are aware of where the state capital is located.
In “Silent but Violent “ Brent Crawford uses satire to entertain the reader about a teenage boy named Carter and his date to the movies. For one of his humors the author says, “I ride the old pink Schwinn like a rented mule”; hyperbole was used to over exaggerate the way Carter rode his bike. As Carter offers to buy Abby candy she says,“I doesn't like candy”; in this quote irony was used because he mentions that he's seen her eat her weight in M&M’s so that answer was surprising for him. During the movie the author called Carters release of gas a “prison break”, this form of Satire is Slapstick because of the physical humor of releasing gas. Overall these are two great stories with creative uses of satire . |
