Teenage life. Its filled with friendship, romance, jealousy , and making mistakes then learning from them. In the book ''Wake'' It contains all of that and more. Its about a poor teenage girl named Janie who lives with her dysfunctional mom. At the age of eight Janie discovered that she had the power to enter other people dreams. This made it very difficult for he to make friends being that she went to school with rich snobby kids. As Janie got older she no longer looked at her power as a curse, but a way to help others. I know that most of my peers are around the same age as me, so if i can relate i'm sure they can.
Throughout the begging of the book Janie had trouble making friends being that shes was very different from the kids she went to school with, which were mainly rich. She met two important people in her life along the way. Carrie and Cable. As these three became older a lot of things changed. Janie met a old lady at her job named Miss Stubin who left a note after she died that said "P.S. You have more power than you think''. This taught Janie that her power could be used for so much more. Cable went from being a menace to society to a undercover cop. His boss Captain Fran Korniski changed his life. New and improved Cable caught the eye of Janie which led to them dating. but with Cable being a undercover cop it made there relationship rocky in the begging.
The story itself could get very confusing at times. When Janie was transitioning herself into someones dream you couldn't tell, but by the font of the text. With some of the characters they left lots of info out.''you don't have to pay me back honey'' says Janie's mom. In the begging of the book it seemed as if her mom despised her and now she seems to be on good terms out of the blue. This is what it sort of confusing in the book.
When i read a review from good reads one person said ''the book never reached its potently'' also ''the main idea could have been taken much further'' and ''the writing irked me''. I agreed with all of these opinions this person had. The book could have had allot more details like i said about the mom, and i also agree the writing style was very confusing. But ultimately the title grabbed my attention and had me wanting more throughout the whole book. This would diffidently be reccomneded by me.
